Objective:

The CODE KIDS Club is for Years 3 to 6 who want to explore technology through Python programming, Artificial Intelligence, Minecraft, and LEGO Robotics. By joining the club, students will develop valuable skills for the future of work and have a blast doing it!

The Future of Work:

As technology advances, it’s essential for children to develop skills in areas like robotics, AI, and programming. The CODE KIDS club will help students understand the technical and problem skills that will be required in the future.

Goals:

Engaging Activities: Students will learn about technology through hands-on projects and activities that are both educational and entertaining.

Valuable Skills: Students will gain practical experience in Python, AI, Minecraft Engineering, and Lego Robotics, preparing them for future opportunities.

Creativity and Problem-Solving: Students will learn how to think creatively and develop innovative solutions, valuable skills for any career.

Learning from Tech industry leaders : Students will be learning from teacher who have decades of experience as tech leaders in the UK and Silicon Valley.

Exciting Career Paths: Students will explore careers in technology, including robotics, AI, game development, and more!

Activities:

Python Programming

Students will create programs, games, and animations using Python.

Artificial Intelligence

Students will explore AI through activities like developing chatbots and teaching machines to recognize words or images.

Minecraft Programming

Students will code in Minecraft using Python to create mods, automate tasks, and more.

Lego Robotics

Students will build and program LEGO robots, exploring sensors, motors, and completing challenges like line following and object detection.

Minecraft Coding

This course is designed for primary aged students who are looking to learn to code the games that they play every day. Minecraft makes coding fun yet meaningful as players learn and understand coding concepts that they bring to life in the game!

The participant can use a drag & drop interface which is highly intuitive, but the blocks also show the actual java code too. Coding concepts like variables, if/then/else statements and constructors will be learnt. More advanced participants can switch any time from block-based drag-and-drop code to Javascript.

The children can play with their creations and show their friends at the end of the session on a secure server that only the course participants on the day will have access to:

Code in Minecraft using a Java editor
Increase complexity with Conditions and Variables
Learn about Boolean and Loops
Test and debug using logic and systematic reasoning
Connect your world and Play in Minecraft

Lego Robotics

Children use the Lego WeDo 2.0 to design robots to solve real world problems. They learn to code their robots in interactive challenges. In addition to the basics of robotics, children learn key engineering principles such as force and motion, gear ratios and aerodynamics.

Solve a real world ‘big problem’ such as pollution, animal welfare, dinosaur habitats
Apply engineering concepts such as gear ratios, aerodynamics, motions
Explore visual programming with the WeDo 2.0 and EV3 software
Build robots that use motors
Program and utilize different sensors
Develop structural design skills

Python Coding

his course is designed for late primary to secondary aged students who are looking to learn to code using a proper “grown-up” programming language.

Learn to code in Python and develop fun games. Python is particularly suitable for this age group because it is concise and easy to read and has multiple applications in the real world (web development, app development and other scientific uses such as data science).

This camp is a great introduction to both fundamental programming concepts and the Python programming language. By the end, the students will be comfortable programming in Python and taking their newly acquired programming skills home.
